Police are studying seized equipment to determine the exact role of suspects in the group.
Europol announced that during a joint operation of German and Ukrainian intelligence agencies, searches were conducted in the homes of alleged key members of the DoppelPaymer ransomware gang. It is believed that the DoppelPaymer gang is associated with the Evil Corp group.
In addition, Ukrainian police questioned a citizen of Ukraine, who is allegedly one of the main members of DoppelPaymer. Searches were also conducted in Kiev and Kharkov.
According to Europol, investigators are currently analyzing the seized equipment to determine the exact role of suspects in the structure of the DoppelPaymer group.
The DoppelPaymer group was first discovered in 2019 and peaked in 2020. According to TrendMicro, DoppelPaymer hackers demanded ransom from $ 25 thousand to $ 1.2 million from victims. German authorities are aware of the 37 victims of DoppelPaymer. US casualties are estimated to have paid DoppelPaymer more than $ 40 million.
In 2021, the DoopelPaymer ransomware program was renamed Grief to avoid the attention of law enforcement agencies. During its existence, Grief attacked 96 organizations.
